I'm the Loud and Pushy One

The most difficult thing in life is to know yourself.
 - Thales

So we covered who I’m not. Have you given any thought to who you are not?

The next step is figuring out who we ARE. I’ve been working on it. I still have a long way to go, but I’m making progress.

I am a wife. I’ve been married almost 15 years, and I still like him. He is a really great guy. I guess I’ll refer to him as DH (dear husband) since that's what other bloggers do.
- I wanted to come up with something catchy for him like FM (favorite man)
or SM (soulmate), but I decided to conform. Yes, I see the irony here.  -
He’s not perfect, but what we have is pretty special. I like being a wife – most of the time. I’m not always good at it, but most days I try to get it right.

I’m a mom. DH and I have three sons (S1, S2, and S3) ranging in ages from 10-5. They are great kids. Really. Not perfect, but really fun to be around. I really do try to be a good mom to my boys. But I don’t always succeed. I’m working on that too.

I’m a woman. I’m loud, pushy, and opinionated. I’m fiercely loyal to those I love. I offer to help without thinking about the cost to me and mine. That gets me in trouble a lot! I speak my mind – another thing that gets me in trouble. I don’t like to operate within the rules. I know they are there for a reason, but sometimes they just get in my way. I will open my house to almost anyone at any time (more on that later). I’m a good listener and a good empathizer. But I can’t stand stupid.

I’m a Christian. I believe in God, Jesus, and the Bible. I believe in truth and love. I believe in God’s grace (undeserved, unearned favor and kindness). I believe that God has a purpose in how I was designed and who I was meant to be.

So I am learning who I am and who I am not. I’m trying to let who God has made me to be guide my choices and priorities. I’m also working on being ok when who I am and who others want me to be don’t line up. Sometimes it’s still hard. Sometimes I wish I was “that woman” But I’m working on being ok with being me.

How are you doing being you? Are you ok with who you are and who you aren’t? Any tips with getting better at accepting who we are? I would love to hear from you.

  1. I love the blog, Dawn! And you know what? I think we're more alike than you know ;-) Because I am sooo not 'that woman' either. (I sit here writing this amidst piles of unfolded laundry and with a sink full of dishes that I will not touch until tomorrow!). My theory on life and friendships is this: I completely do not have my act together - you can take it or leave it. I love having friends over... so long as they love me despite my chaotic house! ;)
